How to Install the Rebel X Ultralight Rally Kit on a Honda CRF300L: Step-by-Step Guide

Welcome back to the channel! Today, we’re diving into another exciting tutorial—this time focusing on the Honda CRF300L. This bike has been gaining popularity across the US, UK, and Australia, although it’s still a bit under the radar here in Europe. But that’s about to change!

In this post, I’ll guide you through how to install the Ultralight Rally Kit by Rebel X Sports. I’ll be using a point-of-view filming style, as a lot of you enjoyed my previous KTM 690 tutorial, so we’re keeping things hands-on.

Note: To protect the innovation behind this kit and to make it challenging for companies that might use my content for their product development, I’ll skip the details on removing the OEM headlight and dashboard. However, I will walk you through the complete installation process!

Let’s Get Started

First, you’ll need to remove the headlight, OEM dashboard, and brackets. Remember, the OEM turn indicators won’t fit on this kit without some custom fabrication, but don’t worry—I’ll show you how to mount aftermarket options.

1. Install the Frame Clamp

Once you’ve removed the OEM parts, the first step is to install the reinforcement bracket. You’ll need your M6x20 bolts, which you’ll place through the bracket and secure with a washer and nut. Don’t fully tighten them just yet; we’ll do that later when everything is positioned correctly on the bike.

2. Mount the Tower Bracket

Next, we’ll install the tower bracket onto the triple clamps. Thread the M5x16 bolt into the captive nut and hand-tighten for now. This will allow us to adjust everything as we install the remaining bolts.

Once the lower bolts are in place, go ahead and hand-tighten the M6x20 black bolts. Be sure to add a bit of thread lock here for extra security.

Pro Tip: For the left side of the bike, you’ll use an M8x25 bolt, while the right side requires an M8x20 bolt due to the extra bracket. Always apply a little Loctite before tightening.

3. Secure the Tower

Now it’s time to install the tower itself. As you guide the tower into place, make sure all the cables are tucked inside for a clean look. Once everything is in position, use the M8x2 bolts to secure the tower with flanged nuts from the inside.

One of the great features of this Rebel X tower is that you can remove either the left or right side to easily manage your wiring. This makes it much easier to zip-tie everything neatly before closing it all up.

4. Install the Dashboard Bracket

For the dashboard, you’ll use the OEM rubber inserts and place them with the taller part facing upwards. Carefully press the dashboard into place, making sure the connectors are properly aligned. Use the OEM bolts to secure everything.

If you opted for the optional USB port with voltmeter, this is the point where you’ll install it. Make sure it’s snug by applying some tape around the connector for extra firmness.

5. Mounting the Bracket for Devices

The final piece of the puzzle is the device bracket, which allows you to mount your GPS, smartphone, or even a roadbook holder. You can adjust the tilt angle and placement depending on your needs. Simply use the M5x16 bolts to lock it in place.

6. Installing the Windshield

Now, for the last step: installing the windshield. Start by sliding the rubber grommets into the bracket, then hand-tighten the bolts with plastic washers. Once everything is positioned and looking good, give the bolts a final tighten.

I recommend positioning the windshield on the second hole of the bracket, which seems to provide the best wind protection while keeping a sleek look.

A Few Important Notes

  • Turn Indicators: If you’re wondering about the turn indicators, the OEM ones won’t fit on the tower. However, there’s a pre-drilled hole for aftermarket indicators with a 10mm thread, so you have plenty of options.
  • If you already have some small aftermarket indicators, you can easily fabricate a custom mount or use one of the pre-existing holes in the tower. Rebel X also offers optional indicators that fit perfectly with their kit.

Final Adjustments

Before you wrap things up, sit on the bike and adjust the angle of the headlights. This is also a good time to test the fit of your navigation devices and make sure everything is securely in place.

Wrapping Up

That’s it for today’s installation tutorial! You’ve now successfully transformed your CRF300L into a more adventure-ready bike with better wind protection, superior lighting, and ideal mounting options for all your devices.

This particular CRF300L is a demo bike I’ve been testing, and it’s actually for sale with only 8,000 km on the clock! If you’re interested, I’ve included a link in the description to pre-order the Rebel X Ultralight Rally Kit. Deliveries will start in July, so make sure to get your order in.

Personally, I love this bike—it’s incredibly versatile with long service intervals and great for off-road adventures. With a bit of suspension work and a new exhaust, it would be perfect for almost any terrain!
